| Who We Are
Hovhannisyan Artashes, the
founder and director of The Euterpe School of Music Creation (Toronto,
Canada), composer of orchestral, chamber and piano works, teacher
of all levels of theory, member of Armenian Composers Union since
2001
Mr. Hovhannisyan studied composition with Edvard
Mirzoyan at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory from 1991-96
and from 1996-98 as a post-graduate student. From 2002 to 2003,
after obtaining the French Government Scholarship, he did post-graduate
studies in composition with Yoshihisa Taira at the Ecole Normale
de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot where he earned the Higher Diploma
in Composition. From 2003 to 2005, Artashes did Master Degree
studies in Ethnomusicology at the University Paris IV –
Sorbonne (France), under the direction of Mr. François
Picard.
Artashes’s teaching career began at the Spendiarov Yerevan
Music School in 1994, where he taught harmony and composition,
successfully preparing students for auditions and examinations
for the Yerevan State Conservatory. Later, from 1998 to 2000,
he was an assistant professor in the Choral composing techniques
at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. In France, along with
studies, Artashes continued his career of a teacher and taught
harmony, music theory and composition. Soon after moving to Canada,
Artashes started promoting his main dream– establishing
his own school of music. In 2007, after obtaining the Canadian
Federal Government’s financial grant, his dream became true
and the Euterpe School of Music Creation was created as a nurturing
ground for music instruction, in which students discover, develop,
realize and explore their creativity both in performance and composition.
